S01E06. The Wall
Original Broadcast Date: 11 December 1988
Using a white golf cart, Phelps drives up to the fourth hole of a golf course, which has a par 5. Using a key of some kind, he opens a green metal box on the ground which has two taps inside, perhaps connected with the sprinkler system. The recorder is in this box, and he takes it out and sits down on a green bench nearby to listen to the message. The password is 351.
Good morning, Jim. Doctor Wolfgang Gestner's practice in East Berlin is a front for an extensive black market operation, which includes an escape route for those who want to reach the West. Except most of those people never make it. This man is Colonel Joseph Batz, East German security. He's Gerstner's partner. They are responsible for the death or imprisonment of over 100 men, women and children. Their profits depend on the continuation of the Berlin Wall, and the political tension it symbolizes. This girl is Ilse Bruck. Her father, a key West German negotiator at the trade talks, beginning in three days' time, was sent this photograph. Gerstner has kidnapped the girl, and has placed her in an artificially-induced coma. He has offered to trade her life for the failure of the negotiations between East and West. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to find the girl, bring her back across the Wall, and put Dr. Gerstner out of business. As always, should you or any of your IM Force be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This disc will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck, Jim.
Phelps closes the recorder and leaves it on the bench. Smoke billows from it.
